Florida’s first Moxy South Beach opened Thursday at 915 Washington Ave. in Miami Beach.

The 202-room, eight-story hotel, developed by New York-based Lightstone Group, includes two pools and four restaurant and bar concepts, with another two eateries slated to open within the hotel in the coming months.

Alan Drummond and Sven Vogtland, the restaurateurs behind Coyo Taco and 1-800-Lucky, developed all six of the food and beverage concepts.

Bar Moxy, a bar located within the hotel’s lobby; Los Buenos, an all-day taco stand and bodega facing the bar; Serena, an open-air restaurant and bar on the second floor; and the Upside, a rooftop bar adjacent to the pool on the eighth floor, all opened Thursday.

Meanwhile, the seafood restaurant and raw bar Como Como is slated to open in April. This restaurant will include an outdoor courtyard dining area.

Mezcalista, a mezcal-style lounge, is also expected to open in April.

New York-based Rockwell Group designed Moxy South Beach’s interiors, including public spaces and guest rooms. Meanwhile, Miami-based Saladino Design Studios designed Serena, Como Como and Mezcalista. Miami-based Kobi Karp Architecture, in collaboration with Rockwell Group, designed the hotel’s exterior.

The opening comes near the end of a one-year period where South Florida hotels saw historic occupancy lows due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Occupancy in Miami-Dade County sat at 46.4% in 2020, a 38.9% decrease from 2019, according to hotel analytics company STR.

Revenue per available room was $87.23 for the year, a 41.4% decrease from the year prior.

Rates at the Moxy South Beach start at $159 per night.
